Meet The Duo

Riley Hensley

Riley, a 17- year old mezzo-soprano, is a high school senior at Riverside High School where she will graduate in 2020. Miss Hensley began studying with Heidi Skok at the tender age of 12 and very rapidly progressed technically as a young mezzo getting started. Riley spent two summers as a high school intern at Resonanz Opera, which was founded by her teacher, Heidi Skok. Riley made her stage debut at Resonanz in an opera at age 15. She sang as a nun in Dialogues of the Carmelites and had a small role in L’enfants et les sortileges under the acclaimed stage director and designer, Timothy Nelson from Washington, D.C. Riley had the opportunity to work with many professionals while at Resonanz. Miss Hensley was a Genie in The Magic Flute in 2018 at Resonanz. Riley has also sung several concerts at Resonanz throughout the Cleveland, OH area which included Wildwood Cultural Center, The Mentor Civic Amphitheater, President James A. Garfield’s home, Lawrence School, and Fairmount Center for the Arts. She is getting ready to record her first Album as the Duo IN FINE LEATHER with mezzo-soprano and teacher, Heidi Skok. Riley plans to continue singing with Skok in the Duo, forging an unconventional music career path leaping straight to performance and gaining experience alongside her teacher and mentor, Heidi Skok.

Heidi Skok

Heidi Skok enjoyed a soprano career since her 1990 debut with Pittsburgh Opera under the tutelage of Tito Capobianco until 2006 when she discovered she really should have followed a lower path as a mezzo. She thus successfully transitioned to a second career in the lower vocal realm. Ms. Skok’s soprano life encompassed performances on four continents with the most notable performances being at the Metropolitan Opera from 1991-2003 under the baton of operas most esteemed conductors in Russian, German, English, and Czech operas.  Skok also performed in many concerts and regional opera companies including Wolf Trap Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Carnegie Hall, The 92nd Street Y in New York City, and Boston’s Jordan Hall among many other venues. Heidi Skok has recorded for the Newport Classic Label Ned Rorem’s Women’s Voices. Ms. Skok is in the process of recording a Christmas album with IN FINE LEATHER which will be released in 2020 and a solo pop album, Skok’s first, to be produced in 2020 by a Nashville producer of original songs written by Skok. Heidi Skok founded Resonanz Opera, a 501© 3 not-for-profit organization in 2009 which operated in Albany, NY. In 2017 Resonanz re-launched in Mentor, OH as an opera company. Since then the company has morphed toward embracing other genres in concert form, including IN FINE LEATHER concerts. Heidi Skok is the owner and Master Instructor at Skokstudio LLC, a vocal instruction studio that offers lessons both in-person and online all over the world. Please see skokstudio.org.  Skok is renowned for her technical prowess in helping voice users, especially those who have struggled with lack of identity or purpose. Heidi Skok champions her students, and her partnership with Riley Hensley together in IN FINE LEATHER channels her dedication and devotion directly to her student successes and progress in their voice work. Heidi Skok’s own artistic ability is versatile, crossing between opera and pop, a testament to her own vocal ability.
